Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 2002. Lineup: Alex Kapranos (vocals/guitar), Bob Hardy (bass), Nick McCarthy (guitar/keyboards, 2002-2016), Paul Thomson (drums, 2002-2021), and Julian Corrie (keyboards, since 2017). Distinguished by their angular, danceable post-punk-revival sound during the early-2000s indie rock wave.
Six studio albums starting with Franz Ferdinand (2004, featuring "Take Me Out" and "This Fire"). The debut won the 2004 Mercury Prize. Subsequent releases include You Could Have It So Much Better (2005), Tonight: Franz Ferdinand (2009), and Always Ascending (2018).
