English synth-pop band formed in Liverpool in 1980. Lineup: Holly Johnson (vocals), Paul Rutherford (vocals/dancer), Brian Nash (guitar), Mark O'Toole (bass), and Peter Gill (drums). Among the most commercially successful UK acts of the mid-1980s.
Two studio albums: Welcome to the Pleasuredome (1984) and Liverpool (1986). The 1984 debut produced three consecutive UK #1 singles — "Relax," "Two Tribes," and the title track — a feat only previously achieved by Gerry and the Pacemakers in 1963. The band split in 1987 after legal disputes with producer Trevor Horn.
