American thrash metal band formed in Phoenix in 1981. Long-running lineup centered on Eric A.K. Knutson (vocals) and Michael Gilbert (guitar). The band's most famous former member is bassist Jason Newsted, who joined Metallica in 1986 after Cliff Burton's death.
Fourteen studio albums between Doomsday for the Deceiver (1986) and I Am the Weapon (2024). Best-known releases include Doomsday for the Deceiver, No Place for Disgrace (1988), and When the Storm Comes Down (1990). The band has been continuously active since 1981 despite many lineup changes.
