American experimental rock supergroup formed in 1998. Lineup: Mike Patton (vocals, also of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle), Buzz Osborne (guitar, of the Melvins), Trevor Dunn (bass, of Mr. Bungle), and Dave Lombardo (drums, of Slayer). Distinguished by genre-collision composition spanning death metal, jazz, lounge, and avant-garde.
Four studio albums: the self-titled debut (1999), The Director's Cut (2001, all film-score covers), Delìrium Còrdia (2004, a single 74-minute composition), and Suspended Animation (2005). Released primarily on Ipecac Recordings, Patton's own label. Active intermittently.
