Austrian musician (1957-1998). Born Johann "Hans" Hölzel in Vienna. Among the best-known Austrian artists ever to have international commercial success. Distinguished by his fusion of pop, rock, hip-hop, and German-language lyrics.
Released seven studio albums between Einzelhaft (1982) and the posthumous Verdammt wir leben noch (1999). Commercial peak: Falco 3 (1985), which featured "Rock Me Amadeus" — the first German-language single to top the Billboard Hot 100 (in 1986) and the first to reach #1 in the UK. Falco died in a car accident in the Dominican Republic in February 1998.
