American rock band formed in Boston in 1985. Long-running lineup: Gary Cherone (vocals), Nuno Bettencourt (guitar), Pat Badger (bass), and various drummers. Cherone briefly fronted Van Halen (1996-1999) during the Extreme hiatus.
Six studio albums starting with Extreme (1989). Commercial peak: Pornograffitti (1990, featuring "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted") and III Sides to Every Story (1992). The band split in 1996 and reunited in 2004. Released Six (2023), their first studio album in 15 years.
