American rock band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1991. Long-running lineup centered on Art Alexakis (vocals/guitar). Other members have rotated frequently; bassist Craig Montoya and drummer Greg Eklund defined the band's classic 1995-2003 era.
Ten studio albums starting with World of Noise (1993). Commercial peak: Sparkle and Fade (1995, multi-platinum, featuring "Santa Monica") and So Much for the Afterglow (1997, featuring "I Will Buy You a New Life" and "Father of Mine"). Continues to record and tour with various lineups.
