British synth-pop duo formed in 1980 by Annie Lennox (vocals) and Dave Stewart (instruments/songwriter). The duo formed after their previous band, the Tourists, dissolved in 1980. Among the most commercially successful synth-pop acts of the early-to-mid 1980s.
Eight studio albums between In the Garden (1981) and Peace (1999). Commercial peak: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (1983, featuring the iconic title track) and Touch (1983, featuring "Here Comes the Rain Again"). The duo split in 1990; both pursued solo work, with Lennox achieving substantial commercial success as a solo artist. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
