English rock band formed in London in 1992 by Justine Frischmann (vocals/guitar, ex-Suede). Other founding members: Donna Matthews (guitar/vocals), Annie Holland (bass), and Justin Welch (drums). Distinguished by their punk and post-punk influences during the Britpop era.
Two studio albums: Elastica (1995, which set a UK chart record for fastest-selling debut album at the time) and The Menace (2000). Best-known singles include "Connection" and "Stutter." The first album was marred by lawsuits over similarities to songs by Wire and the Stranglers; both were settled. The band dissolved in 2001.
