American musician born December 28, 1946, in Beaumont, Texas. Younger brother of guitarist Johnny Winter (both are albinos). Multi-instrumentalist particularly known for his work on keyboards, saxophone, and percussion.
Released over a dozen studio albums starting with Entrance (1970). Commercial peak: They Only Come Out at Night (1972, multi-platinum, featuring the instrumental hit "Frankenstein" and "Free Ride") with the Edgar Winter Group. Subsequent releases include Shock Treatment (1974) and The Edgar Winter Album (1979).
