Guyanese-British singer-songwriter born March 5, 1948, in Plaisance, British Guiana. First gained prominence as a member of the Equals (1965-1971, featuring his own hit "Baby, Come Back") before launching a successful solo career.
Released over a dozen solo studio albums between Message Man (1977) and Reparation (2008). Commercial peak: Killer on the Rampage (1982, featuring the international hit "Electric Avenue") and Going for Broke (1984, featuring "Romancing the Stone"). Pioneered ringbang — a fusion of Caribbean rhythms — and built the Coach House Studio in Barbados.
