English new wave band formed in Birmingham in 1978. Classic lineup: Simon Le Bon (vocals), Nick Rhodes (keyboards), John Taylor (bass), Andy Taylor (guitar), and Roger Taylor (drums). Pioneers of MTV-era visual pop and the "New Romantic" movement.

Commercial peak came with Rio (1982) and Seven and the Ragged Tiger (1983), producing singles "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Rio," "Save a Prayer," and "Union of the Snake." After the original lineup splintered in 1985 (with Andy and Roger Taylor branching to the Power Station and Arcadia side projects), the band continued in various configurations. Sixteen studio albums total. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
