American progressive metal band formed in Boston in 1985 (originally as Majesty) by John Petrucci (guitar), John Myung (bass), and Mike Portnoy (drums, 1985-2010, 2023-present). The classic lineup also includes James LaBrie (vocals, since 1991) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards, since 1999).
Fifteen studio albums starting with When Dream and Day Unite (1989). Best-known releases include Images and Words (1992, featuring "Pull Me Under"), Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999), and Octavarium (2005). Mike Portnoy departed in 2010 and rejoined in 2023.
