American singer and songwriter born Dion DiMucci on July 18, 1939, in The Bronx, New York. First gained prominence as the lead vocalist of Dion and the Belmonts (1957-1960), then launched a long solo career. One of the few popular pre-Beatles American teen idols to remain commercially viable into the 1960s and beyond.
Released over 40 studio albums in his solo career, starting with Alone with Dion (1960). Best-known singles include "Runaround Sue" (1961), "The Wanderer" (1961), "Ruby Baby" (1963), and the late-1960s comeback "Abraham, Martin and John" (1968). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Continues to release blues-oriented material into the 2020s.
