Jamaican reggae singer (1957-1999). Born in Kingston. Often called "the Crown Prince of Reggae." Began his recording career at age 11 with Studio One; widely considered one of the most influential reggae vocalists ever.

Released over 75 studio albums between No Man Is an Island (1969) and the posthumous Death Before Dishonor (2000). Critical peak: Wolves and Leopards (1977), Visions (1978), and Joseph's Coat of Many Colours (1978). Bob Marley reportedly cited Brown as his favorite singer. Died from respiratory failure related to long-term cocaine addiction.
