American composer, arranger, pianist, and bandleader born June 26, 1934, in Littleton, Colorado. Among the most prolific American film composers of the 1970s and 1980s. Won the 1989 Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Milagro Beanfield War.
Key film scores include The Goodbye Girl (1977), On Golden Pond (1981), Tootsie (1982), and The Firm (1993). Also a noted jazz pianist; co-founded GRP Records with Larry Rosen in 1976. Released over 20 albums as a leader. Ten Grammy Awards.
