American mandolinist born March 17, 1945, in Hackensack, New Jersey. Pioneer of "Dawg music" — his own fusion of bluegrass, jazz, gypsy swing, Latin, and folk. Long-running collaborator with Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, including the duo album Garcia/Grisman (1991) and several others.
Released over 30 studio albums starting with The David Grisman Quintet (1977). Best-known releases include the Grisman Quintet's foundational work and the long-running Acoustic Disc label catalog (which Grisman founded). Continues to record and tour.
