American rock band formed in 1969 as the longtime backing band of Neil Young. Long-running lineup: Frank "Poncho" Sampedro (guitar, 1975-2014), Billy Talbot (bass), and Ralph Molina (drums) — Talbot and Molina have been continuous since formation. Original guitarist Danny Whitten (1969-1972) died of an overdose in November 1972.
Released multiple studio albums under their own name starting with Crazy Horse (1971). As Neil Young's backing band, performed on his classics Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969), After the Gold Rush (1970), Tonight's the Night (1975), Zuma (1975), Rust Never Sleeps (1979), and dozens of subsequent Young albums.
