American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1982 as Dream 6. Lineup: Johnette Napolitano (vocals/bass), James Mankey (guitar), and various drummers — Harry Rushakoff was the most consistent (1986-1994). Distinguished by Napolitano's powerful contralto and the band's goth-tinged alternative rock approach.
Six studio albums between the self-titled 1986 debut and Mojave (2004). Best-known releases include Bloodletting (1990, featuring "Joey") and Walking in London (1992). Released primarily on IRS and Capitol. The band has been intermittently active since their 2002 reunion.
