American rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1967 (originally as Chicago Transit Authority). Best known for their fusion of rock, jazz, R&B, and pop with prominent horns. Lineup has included Robert Lamm (keyboards/vocals), Peter Cetera (bass/vocals, 1967-1985), Terry Kath (guitar, died 1978), and a long-running brass section (Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider).

Released 38 studio albums. Their early commercial peak ran from Chicago II (1970) through Chicago X (1976), including hits "25 or 6 to 4," "Saturday in the Park," and "If You Leave Me Now." Cetera-led ballads dominated the 1980s — "Hard to Say I'm Sorry," "You're the Inspiration," "Look Away." Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Continuously touring since 1967.
