British singer-songwriter born Steven Demetre Georgiou in 1948 in London. Performed and recorded as Cat Stevens from 1966 to 1978, then converted to Islam, changed his name to Yusuf Islam, and stepped back from secular music for two decades. Returned to recording in 2006, performing variously as Yusuf, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, and Cat Stevens again.
Released ten studio albums in the Cat Stevens era. Commercial peak: Tea for the Tillerman (1970), Teaser and the Firecat (1971), Catch Bull at Four (1972), and Buddha and the Chocolate Box (1974). Notable singles include "Wild World," "Morning Has Broken," "Peace Train," "Father and Son," and "Moonshadow." Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
