American singer-songwriter and pianist born February 9, 1942, in New York City. First gained prominence as half of the songwriting team Goffin/King (with then-husband Gerry Goffin) — they wrote over 100 charting songs between 1959 and 1968, including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "The Loco-Motion," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."
Launched her solo recording career with Writer (1970); follow-up Tapestry (1971) sold over 25 million copies worldwide and won four Grammy Awards. Released 14 subsequent solo studio albums through A Holiday Carole (2011). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times — as a solo artist (2021), with Goffin (1990), and as a Lyricist Hall of Fame inductee.
