American blues guitarist and vocalist born July 30, 1936, in Lettsworth, Louisiana. Foundational influence on the development of electric blues guitar, with a direct influence on Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jeff Beck.
Released over 30 studio albums starting in 1959. Commercial peak: Damn Right, I've Got the Blues (1991), which began a long-running creative second act on Silvertone Records and continued through The Blues Don't Lie (2022). Eight Grammy Awards. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
