American rock musician born September 23, 1949, in Long Branch, New Jersey. Solo artist and longtime leader of the E Street Band (Garry Tallent, Max Weinberg, Roy Bittan, Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, and the late Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici).
Released 21 studio albums between Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (1973) and Letter to You (2020). Commercial breakthrough came with Born to Run (1975); commercial peak with Born in the U.S.A. (1984), the best-selling album of his career (over 30 million copies). Other key works include Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978), The River (1980), Nebraska (1982), Tunnel of Love (1987), The Rising (2002), and Wrecking Ball (2012). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
