American singer-songwriter, pianist, and bandleader born November 23, 1954, in Williamsburg, Virginia. First gained prominence with his band Bruce Hornsby and the Range (1986-1991). Subsequently joined the Grateful Dead as a touring keyboardist (1990-1995) and pursued an extensive solo and collaborative career.

Released over 25 studio albums spanning piano-driven pop, jazz, country, and classical material. Best-known releases include The Way It Is (1986, the title track was a #1 single), Scenes from the Southside (1988), and Hot House (1995). Won the 1986 Grammy for Best New Artist. Continues to record and tour with various ensembles.
