American singer-songwriter, instrument builder, and visual artist based in Catskill, New York. Distinguished by his minimalist songwriting, deliberately archaic vocal style, and use of self-built instruments — including the "Dewanatron" series of analog synthesizers (built with cousin Leon Dewan).
Released multiple studio albums starting with Tells the Story (1993). The Dewanatrons have been featured in art museums and electronic-music festivals; his songs have been used in PBS specials and documentary work. Continues to perform and record sporadically.
