American rock band formed in Boston (the city) in 1976. Founder Tom Scholz wrote and produced most of the material in his home studio; the recording lineup typically expanded for live performance. Vocalist Brad Delp was the band's most-identifiable voice from 1976 until his death in 2007.
Their 1976 self-titled debut sold over 17 million copies, making it one of the best-selling debuts in US history. Subsequent releases include Don't Look Back (1978), Third Stage (1986, including "Amanda"), Walk On (1994), and Life, Love & Hope (2013). Six studio albums in nearly 40 years — Scholz's perfectionism dictates extended gaps between releases.
