Japanese experimental rock band formed in Osaka in 1986 by Yamantaka Eye (vocals/electronics). Long-running lineup also includes Yoshimi P-We (drums/vocals, who appears as the subject of the Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots"). Pioneers of Japanese noise rock; collaborators with Sonic Youth, John Zorn, and others.
Released over 15 studio albums starting with Onanie Bomb Meets the Sex Pirates (1988). Best-known releases include Pop Tatari (1992), Chocolate Synthesizer (1994), and Super Roots 6: A Live in Tokyo World ... My Friend's Going Crazy (1999). Active intermittently with extended hiatuses.
