American jam band formed in Princeton, New Jersey in 1987. Lineup: John Popper (vocals/harmonica), Chan Kinchla (guitar), and Brendan Hill (drums), with longtime bassist Bobby Sheehan (1987-1999) and his replacement Tad Kinchla (1999-present). Founding member of the H.O.R.D.E. (Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere) touring festival.

Fourteen studio albums starting with the 1990 self-titled debut. Commercial breakthrough came with Four (1994), featuring "Run-Around" and "Hook." Subsequent releases include Straight On Till Morning (1997) and Bridge (2001). Sheehan died of an overdose in 1999. Continuously active.
