American hip-hop duo of Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) and Talib Kweli, formed in Brooklyn in 1997. Both members were prominent figures in the late-1990s alternative hip-hop scene; the duo's name references the Marcus Garvey-founded shipping company.
Two studio albums: Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star (1998) and No Fear of Time (2022, released exclusively on Luminary podcast platform). The 1998 debut became a critical landmark of underground hip-hop. Both members have continued extensive solo careers.
