American rock band led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Ben Harper (born October 28, 1969, in Pomona, California). The Innocent Criminals backing band has been Harper's primary touring and recording unit since 1995. Long-running members include Juan Nelson (bass, died 2021), Oliver Charles (drums), and Leon Mobley (percussion).
Released ten studio albums between Welcome to the Cruel World (1994) and Bloodline Maintenance (2022). Best-known releases include Burn to Shine (1999), Diamonds on the Inside (2003), and Both Sides of the Gun (2006). Harper has also pursued projects with Ellen Harper (his mother), Charlie Musselwhite, and the band Relentless7.
