Babes in Toyland

1 concert · 0 records

American rock band formed in Minneapolis in 1987. Lineup: Kat Bjelland (vocals/guitar), Lori Barbero (drums), and various bassists — Maureen Herman was the longest-serving (1992-1997, 2014-2015). Foundational to the riot grrrl movement, although Bjelland generally rejected the label.

Three studio albums: Spanking Machine (1990), Fontanelle (1992), and Nemesisters (1995). Best-known releases include To Mother (1991) and the major-label debut Fontanelle (produced by Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth). The band dissolved in 2001 and reunited in 2014-2015. Bjelland co-founded Babes in Toyland and the earlier band Pagan Babies with Courtney Love, who took the name briefly before forming Hole.
