American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 2001 by Chris Cornell (vocals, formerly of Soundgarden, died 2017) and the three remaining members of Rage Against the Machine — Tom Morello (guitar), Tim Commerford (bass), and Brad Wilk (drums) — after Zack de la Rocha's 2000 departure.
Three studio albums: Audioslave (2002), Out of Exile (2005), and Revelations (2006). All three reached #1 on the US rock chart. The band dissolved in 2007 when Cornell returned to a reunited Soundgarden and the other three reunited with de la Rocha as Rage Against the Machine. A single 2017 reunion performance preceded Cornell's death by months.
