Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice

British songwriting partnership of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (born 1948) and lyricist Tim Rice (born 1944). Active as a primary partnership between 1965 and 1980, with periodic later collaborations. Their three major works together effectively reshaped the modern stage musical.

Key collaborations: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1968), Jesus Christ Superstar (1970), and Evita (1976). The original concept albums for the latter two — released before any stage production — were commercially successful in their own right. Both partners have since pursued separate composing/lyric-writing careers with frequent collaborations (Lloyd Webber with Don Black and Glenn Slater; Rice with Alan Menken, Elton John, and others).
