English singer-songwriter (1983-2011). Born in Southgate, London. Distinguished by her contralto vocal range and the fusion of jazz, soul, R&B, and reggae that defined her two studio albums.

Released two studio albums during her lifetime: Frank (2003) and Back to Black (2006, produced by Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi). Back to Black sold over 16 million copies worldwide and won six Grammy Awards in 2008, including Record of the Year ("Rehab"), Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album. Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011 at age 27, joining the so-called "27 Club" of musicians who died at that age.
