Several months ago, a Time Magazine representative sent me an email to help do some research for an upcoming Travel Edition of Real Simple magazine. Over the course of the next couple of days, I created a list of 10 Scream Machines (roller coasters for those not in the know) that are not to be missed.
Over the next couple of weeks, a little bit of extra traffic seeped into my site, but nothing really substantial. It turns out that the effects of having an article in print are just not as powering as I would have thought. That is until the parks got a hold of it. Now places like Holiday World are promoting the fact that the magazine ranks them so high. Why not … there is no such thing as bad press.
Now, the second wave of traffic is starting to hit and it is even bigger than the original publication that reaches nearly 2 million subscribers. Never underestimate the power of the Internet.
Sidenote: The article is Top 9 because they mysteriously left out one coaster. That coaster was The Phoenix at Knoebels in Elysburg, PA. Guess the park was just a little too country for the magazine’s upper-class base.
