New Wood in Pennsylvania

Ravine Flyer

As many of you already know, I am a big fan of Roller Coasters and theme parks in general. This past Saturday, Catrina and I headed up to Waldameer Park in Erie, PA to ride the Ravine Flyer II. Not only is this one of the few wooden coasters to be built in the area in recent memory, but pretty damn good also. Many in my hobby have already placed among their top 5 favorite and these are people who take their wooden coasters seriously … very seriously.

Another important point of note, is that many people never thought that this ride would be completed. The project is nearly 15 years old and has seen many legal hurdles. Most of the objections were from a neighboring campground that is now lucky enough to have a top 5 woodie next door. Literally.

Here are some photos of our day. Lots of good times, good rides and good friends.

Mitch Hawker and his Wood Coaster Poll

November 9th, 2007 by tedcromwell

As many of you may already know, I am a pretty big coaster dork. With that said, over the past few years, I have been participating in something called “Mitch’s Wood Coaster Poll”. Now, i am not much on ranking things (ok … I lied), but this one intriques me simply because of it’s head-to-head nature. Apparently, Mitch Hawker uses some crazy formula to unlock the secrets of the coaster universe and find the best ride in the world.

To make the voting process easier, I have created a nice little drag-and-drop application that helps fill out the poll for you. Give it a try!
