November 4th, 2008 by admin

Hey everyone, as everybody has already told you a million times today … make sure you get out and vote. Not only can you try to fool yourself that you are living in a two-party system, but there is all kinds of free stuff to be had.

4 Wins in One Night

October 24th, 2008 by admin

In the sporting world of my head, last night was a good night as all four teams I was routing for pulled out a victory.

  1. Pens topped Carolina 4-1
  2. Tampa bested the Phillies 4-2 and tied the series
  3. West Virginia takes down Auburn 34-17
  4. … and my pool team earned a 11-6 victory

Not a bad night.

Been A While Since That Last Club Show

October 23rd, 2008 by admin

I know … I know. It has been a long time since the last time I graced this site with a post, but I promise to be better. The turn in the economy mixed with the upcoming winter months should provide me with ample opportunities to write some new posts.

But anyway … this past Tuesday I went to the Metropol (now Club Zoo) for the first time in nearly decade to see a band I hadn’t witnessed in over a decade, NOFX. Funny, but the last time I saw NOFX they played for almost the same amount of people and they were all ten years younger. Contrary to my early predictions, the audience had grown old with the band.

The show was excellent although the clubs status as a no-alcohol/all-age venue was slightly depressing to the masses. Especially when the average age of each spectator was in the 25-35 range. Throughout the night the band played a nice sample of old and new and even threw in some rarer tracks such as Radio (Reggae rehash of an old Rancid tune) and The Decline.

I don’t know how many more club shows I will be gracing with my presence in the coming years, but it was nice to step back in time for one night and remember a much simpler concert experience.

Yankee Stadium’s Last Season

September 2nd, 2008 by admin

Yankee Stadium

Yankee Stadium has been around for a long time. After all, they don’t call it the “House that Ruth Built” for nothing. Well, this year is the last season and after wards, the landmark will meet the wrecking ball. Several months ago, I contacted my uncle with the idea of making it up there for a game. Having been a Yankee fan all his life, he instantly took to the idea.

After a month or so of planning (tickets, van rental, hotels, etc.), we made our trek to New York city with assorted family and friends in tow. The adventure was documented in photos. Check them out here.

FEAR at the Moundsville State Penitentiary

January 10th, 2008 by tedcromwell

It has been over 8 years, but while flipping through YouTube today, I was reminded of a project (my first … in fact) that I worked on.

During my senior year in college, MTV visited the Ohio Valley to record a pilot for their new show, FEAR. Directed by the same man who invented reality TV with “The Real World”, FEAR was a contest based show that but people into insanely scary situations to see how they would react. The fearless would be rewarded in the end with a generous monetary prize.

Over 2-3 weeks, I did a lot of odd jobs for the production company including camera setup, intranet design and programming and even live tape deck and router switching during the actual taping. It wasn’t something that I would soon forget and I was excited today when I saw that a YouTube user preserved a little of it’s history … at least for a little while.

Competitive Pinball in the Burgh

December 11th, 2007 by tedcromwell

Ever since I was young, I have always loved pinball. Even during the video game craze of the 80s, I spent my time in the back of the arcade playing the old standards as opposed to the popular video game titles.

This past year, I have gotten back into pinball and even discovered a new thing … competitive pinball.

Seems that while most people have forgotten about the silver ball, there is a small percentage of people that still play. While most players are now also collectors with machines in their own homes, there are still a couple places where you can play.

Through the internet, you can even network with some of these great people and meet up at locations or even tournaments to play against each other. Sometimes for pride and others for money. To bring it even closer to home, the World Pinball Championships (or PAPA) are held in Pittsburgh every year and it is open to the public. Even if you don’t want to play yourself, it is pretty interesting just to check out.

Over the last week or so, I have been updating my Flickr account. Seems that when you don’t update it for a few months, the photos really seem to pile up.

Anyway, I now have a lot of new photos available from the summer including our trip across the mid-west. Feel free to check them out.

October Florida Trip

November 9th, 2007 by tedcromwell

Dee Snyder found some new work

Just about every year, Catrina and I head down to Florida for a few days to check out some of our favorite theme parks. This year, we did something a little different and shared a house with a bunch of online buddies  and the result was awesome.

Check out the report at CoasterFanatics.Com or look at the photos here.
